Our Mission and Vision

Hello, I’m Captain Ian Towne, owner of Marine Adventures 30A, and I’ve been fortunate to call South Walton home since 1993. Growing up along the shores of 30A, the beauty of the ocean and bay ignited my lifelong passion for the marine environment. After earning my M.S. degree in Marine Biology, I focused my research on fisheries, including topics such as artificial reefs, lionfish, and Hogfish (Lachnolaimus maximus). My research on Hogfish led to a publication on age and growth differences, contributing to a deeper understanding of this fascinating species.

During my time in academia, I realized that there was a gap between marine science research and the public's understanding of our oceans. That's why I created Marine Adventures 30A—to bring the science and the beauty of our local ecosystems to life for everyone. My goal is to share the knowledge I’ve gained through my studies and experience, fostering a deeper interest and appreciation for the marine world.

I believe that by educating and inspiring others, we can all contribute to the health and sustainability of our precious marine resources, ensuring they thrive for future generations.
